How to Choose an LED Transformer?
- If the product operates on 12V DC and consumes 9.6W/m of power, you can consider a 1 amp power supply per meter. Because 9.6W / 12V = 800mA, you should choose one value higher than this. To avoid voltage drop in series connections, you should not exceed a maximum of 4 meters.
- If the product operates on 24V DC and consumes 9.6W/m of power, you can consider a 1 amp power supply for every two meters. Because 9.6W / 24V = 400mA, meaning it draws 800mA over two meters. The next amp up is 1 amp. Similarly, to avoid voltage drop in series connections, you should not exceed a maximum of 4 meters.
For example, let's say we bought a 12V DC LED strip. If this LED has a power of 9.6W/m, then for 4 meters, the total power consumption is 38.4W. Calculating 38.4 / 12 equals 3.2 Amps. This means you will need a 4 Amp power supply.
