How to Connect a Bar LED?

In this article How to connect the bar LED? we will look for answers to the question. The mains socket we use in our homes and workplaces is AC current. AC stands for "Alternating Current", ie alternating current. Although there are some different products, standard bar LED models work with DC current. DC, which stands for "Direct Current" in English, means direct current. Therefore, a constant voltage power supply is required to convert AC current into DC current.

How to Connect a Bar LED?

The input of AC/DC power supplies is AC current and the output is DC current. That is, the AC part is connected to the mains socket, the DC output is connected to the bar LED. Some power supplies may have more than one DC output for ease of use.

There is neutral and phase input on the AC side. Generally, neutral is blue and phase is brown. In addition, there is a yellow-green coloured earth cable input. This input is used for protection against electrical leakage.

The colour of the bar LED light can be red, green, blue, white light, daylight, amber or other Kelvin temperatures. Or it can be used in profile or naked. But the working logic does not change. What is important is some details such as the operating voltage of the product, whether the products are connected in series or parallel, the total quantity of the product used, the electrical power value consumed per 1 metre of the product.

How to Calculate Power Supply?

1- Firstly, it is necessary to know how many Volts the purchased bar LED model works with. For example SP70-3000 model is purchased. When looking at the product specifications, it is understood that it works with 24 Volt DC and each of them is half a metre long. So the power supply will be 24 VDC.

2- The power consumed by the selected model at 1 metre is obtained from the manufacturer.

For example, the purchased SP70-3000 model is manufactured with a power of 16 watts per 1 metre. This means that when 2 SP70-3000s are connected in series, they have a total length of 0.5 metres X 2 = 1 metre and a power of 16 W.

3- Total number of bar LEDs to be used and total quantity is calculated.

Let 20 SP70-3000 products are used. Total quantity is 20 pieces X 0,5 metres = 10 metres.

4- Maximum total power consumption is calculated by multiplying the total quantity by the power.

It is calculated as 10 metres X 16 Watt = 160 Watt.

5- Conclusion: In order to operate 20 SP70-3000 models connected in series, a power supply capable of providing a minimum of 160 watts of power, 24 Volt constant voltage and DC output must be used.
