LED, which is among the must-haves in today's technology and forms the basis of Rod LED models, is becoming more and more widespread. What is LED in this article? What does it mean? How Does LED Work? LED Types What are they? And where is it used? You will find compiled information on all curious questions such as.
What is LED? What Does It Mean?
So what is LED? LED, which stands for "Light Emitting Diode" in English, means "Light Emitting Diode" in Turkish. Diode is an electronic element made of semiconductor material that allows electric current to flow in one direction.
LED light is the type of diode that gives. In other words, the diode that converts electrical energy into light is called LED. LED types can give visible light or infrared (infrared, IR) or ultraviolet (ultraviolet, UV) light used in lighting.
How Does LED Work?
LEDs made of semiconductor material consist of two separate regions, just like diodes. One P-type and the other N-type regions form the basis of the poles. The P-type region is the positive carrier, the anode. The N-type is the negative carrier, the cathode.
When the P-type (anode) is connected to the (+) terminal of the power supply and the N-type (cathode) to the (-) terminal, forward polarisation occurs. Thus, current flows from the anode to the cathode. At this time, light is produced as electrons are exchanged between the N-type and P-type sections. This is called "electroluminescence", i.e. "electroluminescence" or "electroluminescence". This is how the LED differs from a diode.
Where is LED Used?
LEDs, which were first used in the display panels of machines, have started to be used in different areas with the development of technology. LEDs used in areas such as television panels, flashes of smart phones, car headlights, advertising signs are frequently preferred in solutions such as decorative lighting design projects, indoor and outdoor lighting.
What are Special LED Types?
DIP LED: DIP LED, which stands for "Dual In-Line Package Light Emitting Diode" in English, means "Dual In-Line Package LED" in Turkish. It is a standard LED type. It is designed in bullet or pill shape.
SMD LED: SMD, which stands for "Surface Mounted Device" in English, means "Surface Mount Technology". SMD LED is produced with a much smaller structure than normal LEDs. It can be soldered in large numbers on a small PCB (Printed Circuit Board) surface. There are SMD LED chips in different sizes such as SMD 5050 (5 mm), SMD 3528 (3.5 mm).
The SMD LED can contain up to three diodes, but each diode requires a separate circuit. Each of these circuits requires 2 connections, anode and cathode. Therefore, each SMD LED chip can have 2, 4 or 6 connection points. It can also be used in multi-colour lighting.
COB LED: COB LED, which stands for "Chip on Board Light Emitting Diode" in English, means "Chip on Board". Just like the SMD LED, it contains multiple diodes, but despite its multi-diode structure, it has a single circuit. A typical COB LED contains 9 or more diodes. The COM LED, which has a single circuit for all diodes, has 2 ports, one anode and one cathode. It is not used for multi-colour light applications.
Power LED: It is a type of LED with high power value. It is preferred in luminaires that require high illumination level such as projectors.
Infrared (IR - Infrared) LED: It produces invisible light in the infrared wavelength. It is used in devices such as night vision cameras, sensors or remote controls.
LED Strip: It consists of a large number of LEDs and electronic elements arranged on flexible PCB. It is used for decorative and normal lighting needs.
Bar LED It consists of LED and electronic elements on aluminium PCB. It is an advanced version of strip LED. It forms the basis of indoor, outdoor lighting and decorative lighting design. Rod LED long lasting.
Panel LED: It is the square or round designed panel version of the bar LED. Designed for an aesthetic stance, panel LED is used in lighting fixtures.
